History

Founded in 1876 in east Toronto near the village of Norway, the Toronto Golf Club is the third-oldest golf club in North America. After Toronto annexed Norway in 1909, the club bought land beside Etobicoke Creek near Long Branch, where Harry Colt's 18-hole course opened in fall 1912 and the Georgian clubhouse in 1913. The course was refined by Charles Alison in 1920 and 1927, Howard Watson added four greens and a short nine in the 1960s, and Martin Hawtree restored Colt's style in 2009–10; the club has hosted the Canadian Open five times and the Canadian Amateur nine times.
