History

The club's first course opened in 1922 as the member-owned Cedar Brook Golf and Country Club. Stanley Thompson laid out 18 holes on about 160 acres of farmland in Scarborough, running from Markham Road west to Bellamy Road just south of Lawrence Avenue. After money troubles, members bought the club's assets in 1935 through Cedar Brae Limited, and in 1939 the club took the name Cedar Brae Golf & Country Club; it hosted the 1940 Canadian PGA Championship. The land was sold to developers in 1954 and the club moved to Steeles Avenue. The old course was built over and is now part of the Cedarbrae neighbourhood, which includes Cedarbrae Centre (opened 1962) and Cedarbrae Collegiate.
