History
The Bowness Golf Club was developed by John Hextall as part of his Bowness Estates residential scheme, with Harry Colt designing an 18-hole course and a 9-hole ladies' course in 1913; after Hextall's death the club organized in 1916–17 and played on sand greens for decades, with later changes by Willie Park Jr. and a 1934 re-routing. Construction of the Trans-Canada Highway through the property in the late 1950s cut the course down to nine holes by 1963. In the 1970s the course was converted into a mobile home park (Greenwood Village) and the clubhouse became a restaurant that burned in 1997; the old grounds now lie under the Trans-Canada Highway, Greenwood Village and the area of Canada Olympic Park.
