History
London's first publicly owned golf course, it was promoted by E.V. Buchanan of the London Public Utilities Commission and opened on June 14, 1924 with six holes laid out by professional John Innes, growing to 18 holes by 1926 and adding a second nine in 1933. The course was leased to the Department of National Defence as an army training ground from 1940 to 1945 and reopened in 1946. Renamed the E.V. Buchanan Thames Valley Golf Course in 1983, it has been owned by the City and has used the 18-hole Classic and 9-hole Hickory layouts since 1992.
