History

The Briars Golf Club opened in 1922 as a nine-hole course designed by Stanley Thompson on land at the Briars estate on the south shore of Lake Simcoe; before the Second World War the club secured a perpetual lease on the land from J.D. Sibbald. Its original 1926 clubhouse is now the Briars Teahouse. The course was expanded to 18 holes in 1972 with a second nine by C.E. "Robbie" Robinson, and it remains a private club with playing privileges for guests of the neighbouring Briars Resort.
