History

In 1933 George Sparkhall bought a 160-acre cattle farm on the east side of Kennedy Road north of Sheppard Avenue in Agincourt and turned it into a pay-as-you-play golf course called Meadowbrook, using a barn as the clubhouse. His son William Sparkhall bought it in 1938 and renamed it Tam O'Shanter. He later added a curling, skating and hockey complex, which burned down in 1971. In 1973 Metro Toronto and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority bought the 118-acre course for $10.8 million, and it still runs today as an 18-hole City of Toronto municipal course, with a new clubhouse opened in 1982.
