History
In 1919 James Pettapiece, who had bought Fern Cottage on Lake Couchiching the year before, started building a golf course on a rocky cow pasture with only his horse to help. It took about five years before it was a rough but playable course. It is still in play as the resort's five-hole, par-3 "Fern Five," which the resort calls the smallest golf course in Ontario, rather than the oldest.
