History
Shaughnessy Heights Golf Club was founded on April 26, 1911, by Richard Marpole and a group of businessmen. The course was on land leased from the Canadian Pacific Railway between 33rd and 37th Avenues in Vancouver. Its first nine holes opened on November 2, 1912, and the back nine followed in 1913. When the lease ran out in 1960, the club moved to Musqueam land on SW Marine Drive and became Shaughnessy Golf & Country Club. The City of Vancouver bought about 55 acres of the old course from the CPR, and that land opened in 1975 as VanDusen Botanical Garden. Townhouses were built on part of the rest.
