History
Brightwood was incorporated in January 1914 on an 80-acre site in Dartmouth known as Mount Thom. Its original nine holes opened for play on July 17, 1914, after Prime Minister Sir Robert Borden opened the course ceremonially. Willie Park Jr. reworked the links around 1919, and in 1921 Donald Ross drew up a plan for a second nine and a redesign of the first. When that work was finished in 1924, Brightwood became the first 18-hole club in the Maritimes, and the 1921 Ross routing is still in use.
