History

Summerlea Golf Club bought land in Lachine in 1921, on the site of a former town called Summerlea. Willie Park Jr. designed a 27-hole layout there. Nine holes were played in 1922, and the course officially opened on June 30, 1923. The club hosted the 1935 Canadian Open, the 1928 Canadian Amateur and the 1953 and 1956 Labatt Opens. Because of rising taxes and the city growing around it, the club moved in the early 1960s to two new Geoffrey Cornish courses in Vaudreuil-Dorion. The Lachine land was redeveloped, and only a few of the old greens survive, inside the neighbouring Meadowbrook golf course.
