History

Founded in 1873 by eight golfers led by Alexander Dennistoun who had been playing on Fletcher's Field, the club received the "Royal" title from Queen Victoria in 1884 and is the oldest golf club in continuous existence in North America. It moved to Dixie in Dorval in 1896, then to Île Bizard, where Dick Wilson and Joe Lee built 45 holes (the Blue, Red and nine-hole Dixie courses) that opened in June 1959. The Blue Course, renovated by Rees Jones in 2004, has hosted Canadian Opens and the 2007 and 2024 Presidents Cups.
