History

In 1917 Midland industrialist James Playfair bought land north of town, and a nine-hole course designed by Nicol Thompson, Stanley Thompson's older brother, formally opened on May 31, 1919. In 1922 Playfair transferred ownership to Midland Golf and Country Club Limited. A second nine, planned and engineered by local dentist Dr. J. Ross Parrott, was built in 1966–67, and Doug Carrick and Ian Andrew later did work on the course.
