History
Whirlpool Golf Course was designed by Stanley Thompson and opened in 1951 as the Niagara Parks Golf Course. It was his last 18-hole project. It sits beside the Niagara Parkway above the Niagara River whirlpool and gorge, and the Niagara Parks Commission has owned and run it from the start. In 2024 architect Ian Andrew began a multi-year phased restoration to bring back Thompson's original design, moving tees back to their old spots and removing bunkers and mounds that were added later.
